All 4 generations of the Suzuki Jimny on view at official event

The Jimny nameplate, introduced in 1970, was Suzuki's first global success story, and the latest generation continues that trend with a reported order backlog of 12 months.

The video shows a red, factory fresh, second generation Suzuki Jimny . Introduced in 1981 in the Japanese market, the second-gen Jimny (Gypsy) continues to be produced by Maruti Suzuki in an altered state. In late 2014, Maruti won a contract from the Indian army to supply 4,000 units of the Gypsy, and till date, there are around 500 takers each month (sales data from Jan-June 2018). The third generation Jimny never made it to Indian shores, but sold globally from 1998-2018, making it the longest surviving Jimny model.

The fourth-gen Jimny, introduced in Japan this month, is available in a 3-door body style. The mini SUV measures 3,395 mm in length, 1,475 mm in width and 1,725 mm in height. A recent report stated that Suzuki is unlikely to launch a 5-door Jimny at least for the next two years. The Jimny is powered by a 660 cc three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine whereas the Jimny Sierra features the K15B 1.5-liter VVT four-cylinder petrol developing 102 PS at 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Both variants share 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission options and standard part-time 4WD. It is the Jimny Sierra which will sell in markets outside Japan.
