BMW commences local assembly of MINI Countryman in India
BMW India has commenced assembly of the new MINI Countryman at their facility in Tamil Nadu near Chennai.

The latest iteration of the Countryman was launched in India on May 3, 2018, around a year and a half after it was unveiled globally.

The second generation Countryman is based on the same UKL FWD platform as the BMW X1. It measures 4,299 mm long, 1,822 mm wide, and 1,557 mm tall. The petrol variant employs a 2.0 L engine developing 192 hp and 280 Nm coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission. MINI Countryman diesel also uses a 2.0 L unit. It produces max power of 190 hp and peak torque of 400 Nm. This variant gets an 8-speed automatic transmission as well. The petrol Cooper S and Cooper S JCW variants can hit the 100 km/h mark in 7.5 seconds while the Cooper SD is slower by 0.2 seconds at 7.7 seconds.

Colour options on offer include Light White, Thunder Grey, Island Blue, Chilli Red, and Melting Silver. The British Racing Green exterior shade is exclusive to the MINI Countryman Cooper S. Leatherette Carbon Black is the standard upholstery available. MINI Countryman S JCW Inspired pack gets Leather Cross Punch Carbon Black upholstery.

The MINI India range includes the Countryman, Clubman, and the recently launched 2018 Mini 3-door, 5-door, and Convertible models. Out of these, only the Countryman is currently assembled in India.

The second generation Countryman was officially unveiled in October 2016. Its first appearance on Indian soil was at the 2018 Auto Expo in February. In India, the Countryman rivals fellow crossovers like the BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA, Audi Q3, and the soon to be launched Volvo XC40.
