The Caudan Fly-Over Rs 93 million more expensive
The construction of the flyover Caudan incurred additional charges surrounding Rs 93 million in 2011. This is what came out of a document that has been deposited in the National Assembly.

This work included the transplantation of royal palms, the demolition of Dookun Building, the demolition of a building owned by the Mauritius Ports Authority, the electrification of the road section, the installation of surveillance cameras, work related to system drains, a pedestrian road, paving and the installation of guardrails.

A top executive of the Road Development Authority (RDA) said Friday that the additional cost of this project was surprising. The initial contract was awarded to a contractor at a cost of about Rs 125 million. "It was the lowest bid. We knew beforehand that this project would cost more money, given the need to undertake additional work to make it happen, "he said and added that this project falls within the budget of the RDA, even if there were opportunities to accept other contracts. According to the RDA, this project should cost at least Rs 250 M. In reality, the cost turned out to be Rs 225 M.

According to the document tabled in Parliament, further work already begun, had generated an additional cost of Rs 1, M 3, enlargement of the Ring Road and Ruisseau créole, changing lanes, among others.
