Drivers receive protecting
Lafarge (Mauritius) Cement Ltd has completed a delivery of safety equipment to its employees, including carriers who work with the group.

As many as 150 carriers received safety helmets, safety glasses and high visibility vests. This reflects the importance given to safety by the Lafarge group, beyond its budget for social responsibility (CSR).

"The Lafarge Group attaches importance to security in all its production units around the world and made it his No. 1 priority. Lafarge Mauritius began its work in the 90s. We want to go beyond the law, "said Lenette Vincent, Managing Director of Lafarge (Mauritius) Cement Ltd.

"Already, we started with the introduction of signage throughout the terminal and distributed personal protective equipment suitable for staff such as goggles numbered," he says.

Several other measures were introduced, such as segregation, wherever possible, pedestrian road traffic systems, permits for hazardous work. Outside the terminal, there was action on road safety with the Road Safety Unit, the Mauritius College of the Air and IVTB.

The construction of a parking area for trucks entering the terminal allows vehicles waiting to be off the road and more secure. A parallel action, which was to work on the behaviour of employees to bring a change of attitude on their part, also took place. The results obtained are conclusive: 1268 days without an accident since 2007.

Vincent Lenette also indicates that the next move of Lafarge will provide the carriers for safety belts for those who are not already equipped.
