Genesis G90 Proves That Hyundai Knows Luxury
To prove that it’s serious about luxury vehicles, Hyundai’s executive-level Genesis G90 has made its debut at the Detroit Auto Show.

The G90 is the first vehicle for the Genesis brand and will take over the same position as the previous Hyundai Equus at the top of the food chain. As Genesis’ flagship model, the G90 is packed with all of the latest technology and has some extremely luxurious materials. The luxury sedan is a direct competitor to the German automakers, but promises to be a much more affordable option.

As a luxury sedan, the G90 has wood on the dashboard and also features Nappa leather. The massive center display sits on top of a transmission tunnel that houses a traditional knob-and-dial controller for the infotainment, HVAC and shift lever buttons. The G90 has a wheelbase that’s 4.5-inches longer than the Equus’. Unlike previous reports, the US market G90 will be offered with two engines. The lower model will come with a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 that produces 365 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque, while the high-end models will have a 5.0-liter V8 from the old Equus, which makes 420 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. Both motors will come with eight-speed automatic transmissions, with power going through Hyundai’s H-TRAC all-wheel-drive system.

Just like the Equus, the G90 will have all of the latest safety technology, which includes a 360-degree Multi-view Monitor, Dynamic Bending Light headlights and a 9.7-inch Head-up Display with enhanced illumination. The G90 may not have the same amount of room as some of its competitors, but the luxury sedan has electronically controlled 12-way seats on the V8 model in the front and 14-way seats in the rear. The G90 will also provide passengers with an incredible acoustic experience with a Lexicon Premium Sound System with QuantumLogic Surround sound. That means the G90 has a 17-speaker audio system with a 10-inch subwoofer, because a premium sound system is what really sets a luxury sedan apart.
