At first you may think the new BMW M4 and Porsche 911 Carrera aren’t direct competitors. On the other hand, both are German-built and engineered, and are geared specifically for driving enthusiasts. But on paper it’s evidently clear that the M4, thanks to its twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline, is more powerful than the 911's 3.4-liter flat-six. This is 430 horsepower versus 345 horsepower. But it’s also important to know that the 911 was designed from the get-go to be pure a sports car.
The M4’s underpinnings come from the 3 and 4 Series. What’s more, the M4 is also less expensive than the 911 – a factor that may be relevant for many. So which one is better on the track? Evo asked this year’s 12 Hours of Sebring winner to get behind the wheel of both to find out.
