Mauritius Statistics: In 2012 Increase of 5.2% of Registered Vehicles
Figures compiled by Statistics Mauritius, on Road Transport and Road Traffic Accident Statistics, show a 5.2% increase in the number of vehicles registered at the National Transport Authority.
Thus, the end of 2011, there were 400,919 vehicles, while the end of 2012, no fewer than 421,926 were recorded. Some 4,794 others at the same time been withdrawn from circulation.
On the other hand, the number of accidents has decreased by 5.3%, with 21,195 cases reported in 2012, against 22,387 in 2011. The road, however, was even more deadly last year with 156 deaths, against 152 in 2011, representing an increase of 2.6%.
