Number Of Vehicles Increase By 2.6 Pc

According to the Central Statistics Office, an increase of 2.6 pc has been noted in the number of vehicles in the?country.
In June this year, 411,527 vehicles were registered at the National Transport Authority compared to 400,919 at the end of December last year. Between January and June this year, around 13,118 new vehicles joined the existing fleet whereas 2,510 were removed from circulation.
On the other hand, in the first half of this year, 69 persons died as a result of road accidents against 79 during the corresponding period last year, showing a decrease of 12.7 pc.
From January to June this year, the number of road accidents declined to 10,679 compared to 11,426 during the corresponding period of 2011. Of the 10,679 accidents, 64 were fatal accidents against 63 for the corresponding period of 2011.
