New-gen Kawasaki W800 Cafe revealed
A retro-styled Kawasaki was grabbing a lot of attention at the 2018 EICMA motorcycle show.

Christened 'Kawasaki W800 Cafe', the motorcycle is a throwback to its 1960’s predecessor, the Kawasaki W1. The W800 Cafe pays homage to the past while having modern technology and features.

The 2019 Kawasaki W800 Cafe pays homage to the original Kawasaki W1 that was sold during the 1960s. The retro styling is complemented by modern features like a full-LED headlamp and ABS.

The motorcycle is built around a traditional steel double-cradle frame. Up front, the W800 Cafe features a cowl that enhances its classic retro look. However, the cowl houses modern lighting. The motorcycle is equipped with a 170 mm LED headlamp that features six chambers – four for low beam, and two additional for high beam.

Following the cowl is a traditional instrument console. The two-pod display includes individual speedometer and tachometer with a classic display while a multi-function LCD screen incorporates odometer, trip meter and clock. Apart from the information mentioned above, the instrumentation also displays FI warning lamp, dual turn signal indicators, low fuel level indicator, high beam indicator, neutral indicator and oil pressure warning lamp.

Ergonomics on the W800 Cafe features a forward leaning position with the "M-shaped" clubman-style handlebar. The riding stance is designed to offer a balance between leisurely rides – where comfort and visibility are a priority – and a natural forward lean when riding at highway speeds. The five-position adjustable clutch lever and four-position changeable front brake lever further enhance the convenience quotient.

Mechanical specifications include a 773 cc air-cooled, fuel injected, SOHC, vertical twin-engine configuration, with a bore and stroke of 77.0 mm x 83.0 mm. The engine is claimed to offer plenty of low and mid-range power and torque. The engine is mated to a five-speed transmission with an Assist & Slipper Clutch.

41 mm conventional front forks and dual rear shock absorbers with adjustable spring preload perform suspension duties. This setup helps retain the classic look to the motorcycle. A 320 mm front disc paired with a 270 mm rear disc provides the stopping power while the safety net includes ABS. 18-inch wheels for both the front and rear enhance the retro appearance.

The dual tone saddle mimics the rear cowl design without compromising on a pillion seat. The 2019 W800 can be customised with a range of optional accessories that are offered by Kawasaki.

The motorcycle can be personalised with Kawasaki Genuine Accessories (KGA) that include chrome trim pieces and engine guards, passenger grab rail, luggage rack, grip heaters, helmet lock and ERGO-FIT reduced reach seat.
