New Toyota Hilux Could Exceed Its Sales Target of 40,000 Units in Australia
The 2016 Toyota Hilux is reported to be receiving a higher rate of bookings in Australia than the company expected. In about three weeks after the pickup was unveiled in the continent, close to 5,000 orders have been made, while Toyota Australia had an expectation of 40,000 units per annum.

Tony Cramb, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Toyota Australia, said, “That’s 30 or 40% more than we had anticipated in the first month.” He added that the company might “re-evaluate” the volume of the Hilux to be ordered from Thailand, as the demand is higher than anticipated.

He went on to say that the company has to determine “where buyers were coming from”, before increasing the imports, as “the worst thing you can do is overreact and oversupply.” He revealed that the official decision will be made by the end of this month.

The case is similar to the Toyota Fortuner’s in Australia, where the company had initially underestimated the demand and is said to be trying to import more.

The eighth generation Toyota Hilux is offered in 31 variants in Australia, while its predecessor was available in 23 versions. Further, the pickup can be accessorised with over 60 items in the brochure.
