The Next Ford Focus RS Will Be FWD
We can now officially rule out AWD.

Set to go on sale in 2016, we’re beginning to receive some specific details regarding the overall makeup of the next-gen Ford Focus RS. First off, it’ll be powered by the same turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost that’s available in the new 2015 Mustang. It’ll have an output of around 330 horsepower and 324 lb-ft of torque, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. Now, there has been some speculation that the new RS would have all-wheel drive, instead of front-wheel-drive like its immediate predecessor.

Ford was apparently toying around with making the change, but Autocar is now claiming the new Focus RS will remain FWD. In order to handle all that power being sent to the front wheels, Ford will outfit the car with a mechanical limited-slip differential. There will also likely be a RevoKnuckle front suspension system (Ford’s variation of the MacPherson strut design) which reduces the amount of torque steer. Compared to the Focus ST, the RS will feature twin rear exhausts, 19-inch alloy wheels, and larger brakes. Expect to see other aerodynamic exterior styling add-ons such as a body kit, rear wing and diffuser. Pricing will be above that of the ST, which starts at just under $24,000.
