The often-copied car was based on a 1955 concept vehicle called the Lincoln Futura that Barris bought for $1. In earlier comic books Batman had other cars, and the character has driven a number of ever more impressive Batmobiles in a string of movies that began in 1989. But none of those vehicles has developed the devoted following of the television version.
Barrett-Jackson, a well-known specialist in collectible cars, said in November that itplanned to sell the famous black car, which was on sale for the first time since Barris acquired it. The company said the car comes with a collection of memorabilia and documentation from Barris’ personal archive.
