The development, which approximate cost is around Rs 470 million, now involves the extension of the road further north to manage with the increased traffic. This part of the highway will be accessible next year.
Meanwhile, the project for the dual carriageway between Forbach and Pamplemousses is close to completion, a senior officer of the Road Development Authority (RDA) informed. The dual carriageway is intended to reduce traffic jams in the north, especially during peak hours. So far, the government has disbursed around Rs 230 million for the development.
The project of the Goodlands bypass is approaching completion too. The contract was awarded to Gamma Civic. This contract includes the construction of a highway about 5 km long and 7.4 metres wide. Four roundabouts were also built.
The setting up of street lights on roads is also underway. After Daruty, there will be another roundabout. The motorway will link Goodlands to Grand Gaube. There will be another highway near Cottage. The Goodlands bypass will end near Poudre d’Or.
The number of vehicles on the A5 road is expected about 9 221, out of which 46% are cars, 9% buses and 23% motorcycles. The cost of these works is around Rs 300 million.
