Raikkonen wins 2018 U.S. Grand Prix, delaying Hamilton's fifth title
Lewis Hamilton has a 70-point lead over Sebastian Vettel

Lewis Hamilton hasn't yet won the 2018 F1 championship after finishing third in the 2018 U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. Hamilton started on pole, but lost ground to eventual race winner Kimi Raikkonen on the very first lap. Hamilton's teammate Valtteri Bottas helped by letting him through for third place, but the Finn then lost out to Vettel and finished fifth.

The victory was the Finn's first since March 2013. Red Bull's Dutch youngster Max Verstappen finished second after starting 18th. Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel, Hamilton's only title rival, finished fourth after recovering from an early spin on the opening lap. That means the championship remains open until Mexico next weekend.

"I actually thought we would have been able to do better but this is the best we were able to do in the end," said Hamilton. "We just have to keep working and keep pushing for the next race."

Hamilton had to score 8 more points than Vettel to secure his fifth championship. After the result of today's race, the British driver now has a 70-point lead over the Ferrari driver. (Reuters contributed to this report)
