The car tested was also equipped with a driver airbag, however, the results are still not very promising.
According to the testing agency, the Renault Kwid's structure has indeed been modified, however, Renault has done the modification only on the driver side and not the passenger side. Renault reportedly started producing this version of the Kwid (with better structural reinforcements) from May 9, 2016.
Global NCAP awarded this variant a 1/5 star rating in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 1/5 star rating in Child Occupant Protection (COP). Previous versions of the Renault Kwid were given a zero star rating only. All tests were carried out at a speed of 64 km/h.
However, the testing agency notes that the passenger's knees could impact with dangerous structures in the dashboard, and that the bodyshell is rated as unstable and unable to withstand further loadings. "The protection offered to the driver head and neck by the airbag was good", the report reads.
Global NCAP also tested the India-made Honda Mobilio, with and without dual front airbags. The Mobilio without airbags scored 0/5 whereas the Mobilio with dual airbags scored 3/5 stars.
