Renault Kwid With Rear Wiper Spied In Brazil Ahead Of Launch

The local subsidiary released the first teaser of the new mini car recently and launched a microsite where those interested in the car can register for more information.

The Brazilian-spec Renault Kwid will be available with 0.8- and 1.0-litre SCe three-cylinder engines. These engines are petrol-powered in India, but it remains to be seen if Renault tweaks both or either of them for ethanol compatibility additionally. The 0.8-litre (petrol) engine delivers 54 PS (53.24 hp) and 72 Nm of torque in the Indian-spec Kwid. 5-speed manual transmission will be standard; the 1.0-litre engine may be offered with the Easy-R automated transmission as well.

Except for a few tweaks related to the bumpers, wheel arches, side moulding and C-pillar, the Latin American Renault Kwid should look largely identical to the Indian Renault Kiwd. Additionally though, the former is said to also differ with a better quality interior and a conventional instrument panel consisting of analogue dials and a multi-information display. Other known features include four airbags and ABS, both confirmed by Renault Brazil.

The Renault Kwid won’t be manufactured in Brazil. Kits will be sourced from the Renault-Nissan Alliance plant in Oragadam near Chennai in India, though final assembly with minor localization will take place in South America.
