Rs 1.3-bn Road Infrastructure Upgrades Underway
The minister of Public infrastructure, Road Development Authority and Transport, Anil Bachoo announced that around Rs 1.3 billion has been invested to ease traffic in the east and centre of the island.

He inspected three sites including the upgrading of Higginson Road from Providence to Saint Julien d’Hotman, the second phase of the Belle Rive-Quartier Militaire link and the Saint Pierre Bypass from Réduit to Verdun.

Minister Bachoo stated, “The roads which were narrow and impairing visibility, are being extended.

Bachoo highlighted that the construction of the 4.1 km Saint Pierre bypass under the road decongestion programme will curtail travel time, decrease energy demand and offer a better level of passenger comfort and safety.

“Saint Pierre is more congested than Port Louis. Students always complain about traffic congestion and due to this have even been late for their exams.

Higginson Road which was initially riddled with harp bends is being upgraded over a length of 2.5 km and widened to 10.4 metres.

The Saint Pierre bypass will start from Verdun and end opposite Apollo Bramwell Hospital.

The second phase of the Belle Rive to Quartier Militaire strip consists of three roundabouts and a concrete bridge of 10 m at Quartier Militaire. The government along with Sinohydro Corporation Limited and the World Bank are funding the projects.
