A "surprise" for motorists
The Ministry of Public Infrastructure announces the re-operation of 'Speed Cameras' recently installed in the country. However, no specific date has been advanced.
Asked about the re-operation of the new 'Speed Cameras', the Minister of Public Infrastructure Anil Bachoo hinted that it will be "a surprise for motorists."
According to other departmental sources, the new 'Radar' is now calibrated to "flash" the offenders. The first tests of the new 'Radar' were conducted in May. An adjustment in the wiring of these devices has also been completed.
In total, fifteen of these new 'Speed Cameras' will be operational on our roads this week. The rest will come again in operation next week. These 'Speed Cameras' were installed in twenty places. A total of thirty-five 'Speed Cameras' are already installed.
Furthermore, regarding the process of contravention, the photos taken by these 'Speed Cameras' are sent to the Traffic Management and Road Safety Unit in Port-Louis. Once the photos received, it is then the police is responsible to send a copy to the driver at fault.
