Surveillance camera project in final stage
CCTV cameras that have been installed at Port Louis to fight crime will soon become operational as technicians are fine-tuning the system.

This is the final step of the project before the CCTV cameras are officially unveiled.

The project was initially supposed to be completed in August 2010 but network and other technical problems such as thunderstorms pushed the operation date to January and later to May this year. A senior official from the Line Barracks said, “Chinese technicians are still fine-tuning the system to avoid any technical glitches. This is the last step before the cameras come into operation.”

Port Louis will have 340 cameras to monitor the entrance of Bell Village till Abercrombie, including the Caudan roundabout, downtown of Port Louis, Victoria and immigration bus stations, Labourdonnais street, Marie Reine de la Paix, Champs de Mars, Vallée Pitot, Plaine Verte, Cité Martial, Roche Bois, Cité la Cure, Baie du Tombeau, Le Goulet and Caro Kaleptis.

The whole system for this region will be managed by a control room located at the Line Barracks.
