Tesla Cybertruck Becomes a Police Car, but It Looks Weird

That was until computer tech giant Oracle came up with a plan to develop a police car based on the Tesla Cybertruck. Larry Ellison, the company’s co-founder, used to be a member of Tesla’s board of directors. So this pretty much explains his interest in such a project. He made the announcement during Oracle’s CloudWork conference, which took place in Las Vegas.

He refers to the Cybertruck as a "next generation police car" and announces that it is coming "very soon." All we can do is hope that Larry Ellison's 'very soon' is not synonymous to Elon Musk's, who has been having a problem meeting deadlines for years. The Cybertruck was supposed to enter production in 2021, two years after it was first unveiled, in November 2019. Production just kicked off this summer at the Giga Factory in Texas. Meanwhile, the Tesla Roadster is nowhere to be seen either.

Ellison admits that the Cybertruck is his favorite car just as much as it is Elon Musk's favorite car. "It’s incredible. I know too much about it, some of it is still to be disclosed," he said.

He claims the pickup truck is very safe, very fast, and has enough cameras and screens that the owners won’t be needing to use any others on board the vehicle.

During the conference, the screen behind Larry Ellison showed a rendering of a Tesla Cybertruck wearing not a police livery, but the 'Oracle' lettering. The model showed up equipped with emergency lights up on the roof and at the front, sirens, and a bull bar. Yet, it seems to be missing the huge windshield wiper, the bumper lights were relocated and there seems to be something strange about the position of the wheels. There is obviously a long way to go to completion.

While Tesla would supply the car for the project, Oracle would come up with cloud solutions, as they are doing right now for various law enforcement agencies. The company has recently developed a new first responder system, based on satellite and terrestrial tech, which Ellison says “will never fail.”

Before the Tesla Cybertruck police vehicle ends up in police fleets, one thing is for sure: the so-called bulletproof windows of the model would come in handy for the police officers who will be on board. That is if the production version actually features windows that can withstand bullets. During the official unveiling of the Cybertruck back in November 2019, those windows were not exactly bulletproof. They weren’t metal ball-proof or baseball bat-proof either.
