Tesla Model 3 Will Come in Sedan, CUV Versions
News that Tesla is planning to expand its lineup is no great secret. The Model S will soon be joined by a Model X crossover and the more accessible Model 3. But that's not all.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Tesla chief technical officer JB Straubel revealed that the Model 3 will be available as a sedan and as a crossover. That'll give the company a two-pronged lineup with two levels of electric sedans and crossovers.

Though the confirmation may go a long way toward solidifying Tesla's future product line, it's not the first time we've heard of plans for a Model 3 crossover. Back in 2012, we brought you a slide that indicated just that.

Three years later, details still are few and far between, but the Model 3 range is expected to arrive in 2017 with a sticker price around $35,000. The expanded model line is projected to help Tesla reach its goal of building 500,000 units annually and getting a total of a million electric vehicles on the road by 2020.

As of the end of last year, Tesla had sold over 56,000 examples of the Model S, and only a few thousand examples of the Tesla Roadster that put it on the map.
