Toyota TRD Pro truck updates teased — but you have to squint
You know the drill: A vehicle manufacturer wants to build interest in an upcoming reveal of a new product.

So there's a dance of the seven veils involving a series of photos and videos and a controlled release of intriguing facts. Nobody stretched out this process better than last year's tantalizingly slow unwrapping of the Dodge Demon. The photos might show a design detail, or a dimly/dramatically lit photo of the vehicle in profile, such as this next-gen Hyundai Santa Fe crossover.

But Toyota just took a new approach by backing up — way, way up — from the vehicle, providing a teaser that's inscrutable but also quite pretty. Above, you can see what appear to be a 4Runner, a Tacoma and a Tundra. But why are they so blurry, you ask? Well, because we've zoomed in on them for you. Here's the photo as it originally came from Toyota:

Along with the photo came a press release, the complete text of which is as follows: "Toyota will unleash its next batch of trail-ready four-wheelers on February 8th, 9 a.m. CST, at the 2018 Chicago Auto Show." That's all they wrote.

Admittedly, that looks like a pretty fantastic place to be. We're just not seeing much of the product. You can safely assume that what we'll see in Chicago is an update to Toyota's TRD Pro Series off-road lineup. There's just no telling what the update entails. But we'll let you study the photo for clues. Good luck.

We'll be at the Chicago Auto Show next month for the Toyota TRD details and a lot more. Until then, ICYMI, here are our collected works from the Detroit Auto Show.
