Trou-aux-Cerfs Now Prohibited for  Drivers
Access to the Trou aux Cerfs is now prohibits drivers. The Municipality of Curepipe has decided to declare the area around the Trou-aux-Cerfs as pedestrian.

Motorists will now be denied access near the crater of Trou aux Cerfs. This decision was made by the Municipality of Curepipe, who decided to make this place a pedestrian zone. This Decision shall take effect from this Friday, July 6, 2012.

Access to the Trou-aux-Cerfs was previously authorized to motorists 18 hours a day. The women were denied access in the morning from 6:00 to 9:00, and in the afternoon from 16:00 to 19:00.

In 2004 the municipality of the City of Light had decided to limit access of Trou-aux-Cerfs motorists at certain times, after a car had hit a cyclist killing him. The surroundings of Trou aux Cerfs are frequently used by members of the public to engage in physical activities. They are several hundred people to go there every day both in the morning until late afternoon.

The Mayor of Curepipe, Sunil Beedassy explains that this decision comes as part of the political Maurice Ile Durable (MID)."We want to preserve this place of all forms of pollution and in parallel ensure the safety of riders," he says.
