Two vehicles seized as Bramer fraud accused get bail
Officers of the Central Criminal Investigation Division are continuing the investigation in the embezzlement case at Bramer Banking Corporation.

They seized two more vehicles on Wednesday. Police officials took away a Peugeot and a BMW, bringing the total number of vehicles seized to nine.

Four of the suspects arrested as part of the enquiry were granted bail at the Port Louis district court. This included Chandini Dip, wife of assistant commissioner of police Anil Kumar Dip. She was charged with larceny. She paid bail worth Rs 700,000 and an acknowledgement of debt worth Rs 2.5 million.

She will have to visit the closest police station everyday or her bail could be cancelled. Police officials did not object to the bail motion of the three other suspects, Amina Goolap, Hasrinah Katoaroo and Mohammed Seedeer. However, they were remanded to the police cell as they were unable to provide guarantees worth Rs 1 million.

Investigators continued quizzing Chandini at the CCID headquarters on Wednesday as they believed she could reveal the mechanisms used by the group to embezzle the money from clients’ bank accounts. According to sources, some 20 people were arrested as part of the enquiry.
