" The scope of works will consist of the stabilization of the landslide zones in four specific cut areas and the completion of the road and drainage works over a distance of 2.5 Km,'' said in a document from the Ministry of Public Infrastructure (MPI). According to the same document, 400,000 m3 of earth will be removed during this exercise. The construction period is 15 months.
This road, 26 km long, has been operational since last December. The project cost is Rs 4.1 billion. Its main features are as follows: a four-lane highway extending over 15 km long including two additional lanes of 5 km between Valton and Ripailles a roundabout Verdun giving access to several villages (St-Pierre, l’Avenir, Ripailles, Montagne-Longue and Bois Pignolet) and a bridge 11 m in width over the M2 motorway Terre Rouge in Calebasses.
The objective is to facilitate the movement of the North East, avoiding passing through the capital.
