156 Illegal Taxis Destroyed
Authorities in the Chinese city of Hefei recently ordered the destruction of 156 illegal taxis.

The order was carried out with great vigour by police, city workers, and legal taxi drivers who got a chance to vent their frustrations by destroying criminal cabs with an assortment of tools, including sledge hammers.

Smash job

Illegal taxis are reported to be a major problem in China as they operate without taxi licences and with fake meters. They are often unroadworthy, sporting fake license plates and painted in the same colours as taxis from legal operators.

Professional recycling crews finished the smash job and will reuse the scrap metal and parts.
