Mazda presents concept pictures of the future CX-5. The concept shows the automaker's new “Kodo” design style. The Minagi will platform Mazda's Skyactiv engine, transmission and chassis technologies.

The Mazda Minagi, which the company describes as a "compact crossover concept," will give a tiptoe preview of the future Mazda CX-5. The Minagi debuts in early March at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show.

The CX-5 will accept several family resemblances to the larger CX-7 and CX-9 crossovers, although Mazda says the Minagi concept displays the new “Kodo” design style. Company's press release said only that the Minagi is "the forerunner to Mazda's next-generation products."

The automaker said the Minagi concept will showcase its Skyactiv engine, transmission, body and chassis technologies. Mazda's Geneva stand will display several of those technologies, including a direct-injection gasoline engine, a clean diesel and new automatic and manual transmissions.
