The Korando SUV has just been given a more powerful diesel engine that produces exactly 19.4% more power compared to its predecessor. The new output figures are 178 PS (131 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) at 1,400 – 2,800 rpm. This is courtesy of a newly developed, Euro 6 compliant 2.2-litre 4-cylinder turbodiesel mill named e-XDi220, that replaces the Euro 5 2.0-litre motor.
Due to the switch, the CO2 emissions have been controlled to 139 g/km from 147 g/km, and the fuel economy has been raised from 16.67 km/l to 18.87 km/l in the combined cycle. While the new motor comes standard with a 6-speed manual gearbox, an Aisin 6-speed automatic transmission is also offered as an option.
The 2016 SsangYong Korando gets new equipment as well, including new 16- to 18-inch alloy wheels, new piano black grille, clear lens turn indicators, an RDS sound system with MP3, Bluetooth and iPod/iPhone connectivities on the SE variant, a 7-inch touchscreen with rearview camera display on the mid-variant EX, TomTom navigation on the top-end ELX, and USB, AUX and HDMI ports on all models.
