9423 Vehicles Sold in 2012
The automotive market, as expected, had a very strong performance in 2012. The year 2012 is a very good year in terms of sales figures with sales exceeding nine for the first time, the bar 9000 vehicles. The new vehicle sales totalled 9,423 against 7,958 in 2011, an increase almost insolent 18.4%.

This, unlike the imported used cars, whose sales continue to decline and pass 5,500 in 2012 against 5,800 in 2011. Market share of new and used cars imported establishing a ratio of 60: 40.

Leal confirms its leading position as the first dealer of the island, with 1,915 vehicles sold. Thus, for the second consecutive year, the Group Leal is on the 1st step of the podium sales of new vehicles in Mauritius. In the ranking of dealers found in second position ABC Motors, with 1478 vehicles sold, followed by Mauritius with 1348 Toyota vehicles.

The Group also ranks first Leal car sales in Mauritius in 2012 and is growing at 19.8%. The Koreans appear and settle permanently on the Mauritian market. KIA is the 1st car brand in Mauritius.

For the first time in its history, the Kia brand becomes the 1st car brand in Mauritius. After only two years of partnership with the Kia brand, the Group Leal has succeeded in making the brand switch from 1st to 12th place in the ranking of car sales, totaling 969 units sold, despite the difficulties of supply on some models like the Rio and Picanto. Kia recorded exceptional growth in sales of 69.5% compared to 2011.

This tremendous growth is due, in the direction of Leal, in part, to the launch of the new Kia Rio. This model was an immediate success and has also been the best-selling model in 2012, all brands in Mauritius.

BMW remains in 2012, the undisputed market leader in premium vehicles in Mauritius. The German mark in 2012 shows record sales of 442 vehicles with a dramatic increase of nearly 20%. The launch of the new BMW 3 Series in the first quarter of 2012 has greatly contributed to this success.

Regarding the brand's best-selling car in 2012, all categories, there seems to be a war of numbers between Nissan, the best-selling brand in Mauritius for 16 years, and Toyota. Pascal Lelong, National Sales & Marketing Manager at Toyota Mauritius maintains, for its part, that the figures Toyota sales totaled 1,348 vehicles well.

Contacted by The Daily Challenge, Lalanne Gilles, President MVDA says he can not even decide on the best-selling brand in 2012. That, due to a delay by Toyota Mauritius for submission of sales figures as well as some parameters to clarify with the NTA
