'Attendants' in School Buses: Rates Increase From 15 to 20%?
As of August 20, all drivers of school vans must necessarily be assisted by an attendant (waiting for him).

After trying to make their arguments on the issue, the owners of these vehicles have no way to challenge that decision. However, to comply with this measure, the owners of school vans apply an increase of 15% to 20% on their rates.

The 'Regulation' 34A of the Road Traffic Regulations of 1954 provides that all drivers' contract nozzles, providing transport school children from pre-primary and primary school will employ a 'waiting' to ensure the safety of children. To do this, owners must submit an application to the National Transport Authority (NTA) so that these 'attendants' can get a piece of Accreditation (Identity Card). These forms are available from Thursday and must be filed no later than July 13.

Owners of vans grouped within schools due to the Van Committee affirmed their position several times. They stress that they are not opposed to the measure imposed by the authorities. However, they say, "the authorities are, once again, the cart before the horse. We met with the NTA and the Western Division of the police two weeks ago. It's a good thing to require that 'attendants' have accreditation. But what about their training? It will be impossible to form by August 20, "said Nazir Junggee Committee Chair Van secondary pathways

Stressing that the regulations impose the permanent presence of a 'waiting' in school vans, Nazir Junggee asks: " These employees are first and foremost human beings who are entitled to get sick and get time off. How they do we find a replacement accredited? Besides the owners of vans will contribute to national pension fund for those employees. Where to find the money if not in the pockets of parents? "

"We will protest it.There is no trade-offs when it comes to child safety. We will respect the law and we are boosting rates by 15% to 20% at the end of August, "says Nazir Junggee. If owners do not protest, it will be the parents who suffer from this increase. They will find an additional sum of over Rs 100 for a normal price of Rs 600 per child.

Nazir Junggee brings together members of the Van schools due this Saturday to discuss the way forward.
