We sometimes call that Subaru Forester-ing. There came a point in the automotive industry where people generally gave up on the idea of aggressively marketing to old people.

This is a shame, because the new Audi Q7, which debuted in December, has that one thing that makes cars irresistible to old people: it is easy to get in and out of. Very easy, in fact. The new Audi Q7 is much lower to the ground than it was previously, but it retains the high roof. We've made fun of this shape a bit, but the truth is that it is amazingly convenient.

Cargo is also easy to load and unload with this shape, and the new generation Q7 is a full 716.5lbs lighter than the last incarnation. That means better fuel economy, with the 3.0-liter diesel-equipped model getting 41.3 mpg. A 333-horsepower 3.0-liter TFSI gasoline engine is available too, which makes the Q7 able to sprint to 100 in 6.1 seconds. The inability on Audi's part to choose between a wagon and a crossover might seem a bit strange, but it is a very practical vehicle. It's not exciting, all of this practicality, but it never is, and Q7 buyers most likely won't be expecting it to be.
