The ban on washing vehicles is temporarily lifted
Good news for drivers who like cleanness. The Central Water Authority (CWA) has temporarily decided to lift the ban on washing vehicles, watering lawns and washing of buildings, following heavy rains in recent days have certainly been positive and beneficial our reservoirs and groundwater.

This decision follows a high-level meeting Thursday in the office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Utilities Rashid Beebeejaun, Port Louis, with the CWA, the Water Resources Unit and the Waste Water Management Authority.

Megduth Chumroo, Acting Director of the CWA, told the Le Matinal that various companies use water as one of their main resources. The work has been affected by this ban, so this new measure will relieve them. However, he added that "if the situation came to deteriorate, it would again be applied." He appealed to the people use water wisely as the situation in our reservoirs is still not at full capacity.

The 'Drought Period Regulation 2011' came into force on January 4. This provision provided a fine not exceeding Rs 200,000 and a maximum sentence of six months in jail for those caught.

Water cuts will thus continue. Plains-Wilhems, North, East and South continue to receive water once a day, but with a small consolation - Megduth Chumroo announcement that the hours of water supply have been extended because of new aquifers have been identified in Fine Dreams and Little River, opening the way for the implementation of various strategies. And the work of the dam de Bagatelle begins shortly. The rate of filling our tanks on Thursday is: to Mare aux Vacoas 44%, Piton du Milieu Midlands 95% and 57%.
