Imagine if you will, that NYC or Washington DC municipalities passed a policy one day to prevent its residents from buying new cars. Seems unbelievable right? Sources report a new policy in Beijing could prevent residents who don't own a paking space, the ability to purchase a new car. The aim is to help control against overcrowding and potentially toxic levels of smog in the city. There are now 5 million vehicles and just 741,090 parking spaces. Opponents believe the municipality needs to focus on building more parking spaces as many of the capital's older buildings have no private parking.
