A new building project will be started in the north of the island from January 12, 2011. The first phase of the project will be the first stage development of the Circle Square with the implementation of Motor City.

The project will be implemented in six phases. The first part will be done within one year and will cost Rs 300 million. The 15 hectare for this task was purchased 18 months ago and is a long term project costing several billion rupees.

Circle Square project is undertaken by the Indian Ocean Real Estate Company (IOREC). Barry Wessels, development director of IOREC believes that the project is designed for Mauritians. Wessels assured that work on Motor City, the first stage of the project, will start in January. “The Motor City on 6000m2 will comprise several products for boats and bicycles. The marine space is part of the project and includes recreational activities,” he said.

A medical centre is also on the agenda. Circle Square is not just a shopping centre but the idea is to make it an integrated centre with a spa, gym and food facilities. Offices will also be constructed.

The choice of a Cottage is not a fortuity. “With 2,000 people in Grand Baie and thousands of people in the north and east, we believe that the choice is apt. We need to be accessible,” Wessels said.
