Engen Opens First New Service Stations in Mauritius with Innovative Equipment and Offerings
Just over a year since its entry into Mauritius, Engen has opened two new state of the art service stations on the Island.

The sites located at the Bagatelle Mall of Mauritius and Rose Hill have been built to the same high standard that Engen has come to be known for all over Africa and which has led to its leadership in several Southern Africa and several countries over the years.

Christian Li, the Marketing Manager of Engen Petroleum (Mauritius) Limited confirmed that two more services stations were under development and would be streaming before the end of the year. This will bring the number of Engen service stations from 28 to 32 by the end of this year, with more planned for next year. All the new service stations will operate on a 24 hour basis 7 days a week.

Site Features

Both the Bagatelle and Rose Hill Engen service stations feature innovations new to the Mauritian fuel market and which will certainly change the way Mauritians view service stations.

Amongst these innovations is the Quick Shops - a convenient outlet located within the service station and which has been designed to motorists and other customers to save time shopping on basic convenience products at affordable prices, while refueling. The additional benefits are also long opening hours, parking facilities, less queuing at pay counters and Quick Shop savings promotions. All new Engen service stations will have a Quick Shop and there is also a roll out plan on the current network to get closer to our customers. Quick Shops have already been deployed at three of our existing Engen sites: Reduit, La Vigie and Petit Raffray and the plan is to have eight Quick Shops in our network by year end.

The new sites will also have a Corner Bakery, South Africa’s biggest bakery franchise which, together with Engen as a partner, is on an expansion drive in selected countries in Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands.

In addition to the expansive Quick Shop and Corner Bakery at Bagatelle, there will be a Pizza & Burger Perfect franchise to offer the Mauritian people the first drive thru outlet located in a service station. Both Corner Bakery and the fast food restaurant will provide for outdoor seating facilities.

There will also be a modern car wash facility with five wash bays and 11 detailing bays complemented by a shuttle service to drop and collect customers to and from the shopping mall, whilst their cars are being cleaned. The Car Wash has been equipped with high tech Cold Water Spray Jet Carwash System that has been tested as the least harmful way of effectively washing a vehicle. Moreover, this Car Wash will be most environmental friendly as it uses “Bio-Technology Bacteria Cleaning without Chemicals” from Innu-Science – the Global Leader in Bio-Technological cleaning products.

In constructing the service stations, Engen incorporated green design principles to ensure maximum protection of the environment. The service stations are equipped with double-wall composite underground storage tanks and High Density Polyethylene Thermoplastic piping with Electrofusion welding. The Submersible Turbine Pump with mechanical leak detector system on top of tank used is yet another innovation and it is the first time this is used in the local market. Shear valves are also installed on each product line under each dispenser. The shear valve will stop the flow of product in the event of a dispenser being knocked down, or in the event of a fire. Over and above these, it is expected that the sites will consume up to 80% less electricity as they have LED Canopy Lights with Bi-level motion sensors, LED Internal lighting and LED illumination in fridges and signage.

The sites have also been built with easy wheelchair access and provide toilet facilities for disabled people.

Other innovations

Engen has also introduced its revolutionary card system in Mauritius – The Engen 1-Card, a new generation fleet solution for safe and secure transactions. Engen’s unique Vehicle Identification Tag ensures vehicles are present when the product is purchased, giving fleet owners and customers certainty that the product actually went into their vehicles.

“Last but not least, diesel motorists will also benefit from our additised diesel when they refuel at any of our Service stations on the island,” says Li. “Engen Dynamic Diesel” is exclusive to Engen and it incorporates the latest diesel additive technology to provide improved power and performance with the potential for reduced fuel consumption.”
