Fans Petitioning Sony Pictures To Restore Ghostbusters ECTO-1
Star cars can live on in the hearts of movie fans, but as we learned with the DeLorean time machine used in Back to the Future, even some of the more popular cars can end up being forgotten about by the studio. Such is the fate that has befallen the lead car from the Ghostbusters franchise – a 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor ambulance more affectionately known simply as ECTO-1

As you can see in the image above, ECTO-1a (the updated car used in Ghostbusters 2) looks much different from the last time we saw it help rid New York City of ghosts, ghouls and evil spirits in 1989. Neglected and apparently left to the elements, the car is in rough shape likely requiring far more than the "$4,800" the car took to fix up in the original film (you know, for the suspension work and shocks, brakes, brake pads, lining, steering box, transmission, rear-end, new rings, mufflers and a little wiring).

Just like the recent restoration project for the BTTF DeLorean, though, a group called Ghostbusters Fans wants to get its hands on this car to restore it back to its original glory. To do so, it has set up a petition in hopes of convincing Sony Pictures Entertainment to allow it to purchase the car at scrap price and eventually plans on setting up a funding campaign on Kickstarter in the future.
