Will compete with the Mitsubishi Mirage and Suzuki Celerio. Kia Australia will launch the 2016 Kia Picanto hatchback in its five-door form early next year. Caradvice Australia reports that the model will be launched in only one trim and one engine option.

Kia has not confirmed which variant will be offered but the website speculates that since only one trim will be available it can be expected with a high level of standard equipment similar to that of the premium ‘EX’ model sold in New Zealand.

Taking that into consideration, the 2016 Kia Picanto should come with standard features such as six-speaker audio system with CD, MP3, USB, AUX and iPod compatibility; remote central locking; multi-function leather-wrapped steering wheel, reverse parking sensors, ABS with EBD and BAS, ESP, dual front airbags, knee airbags, dual side bags and rear door child safety locks.

The exterior for 2016 model gets a redesigned bumper, front grille, fog lights and alloy wheel design. The exterior aspects exclusive to the top-end EX trim are LED DRLs, LED taillights, 15-inch alloys and front and rear fog lamps; these are likely to find their way in to the Australian-spec variant.

The only engine option that will be offered in the hatch will be a 1.2-liter, four-cylinder petrol making 86 bhp and 123 Nm of torque. This engine will be mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission.
