Instead, Warner Bros. swung by for the latest episode of Jay Leno's Garage to show off the modern interpretation of the Batmobile – known as the Tumbler.
Introduced for Batman Begins in 2005, the Tumbler is not your typical movie prop car as it runs, drives and does its own stunts (without CGI). The fully operational Tumbler shown above was the car actually used in the movies, and it can hit speeds of up to 90 miles per hour, powered by a Chevy V8 rather than the fake jet engine poking out the rear. The first prototype of the Tumbler took about a year to build at a cost of as much as $1 million, and these fully custom-built cars (seven of which were made) are "fairly lightweight," even if it does tip the scales with roughly the same heft as a Chevy Suburban. Scroll down to learn more about the Tumbler and to watch Leno take it out for a spin on the roads of California.
