Mitsubishi has unveiled an all new concept – dubbed as the Mitsubishi XM – which previews a crossover to rival the 7-seat Honda BR-V.

It is confirmed to enter production from October 2017, at a new plant in Bekasi, West Java, Indonesia.

The front fascia of the Mitsubishi XM adopts the company's latest 'Dynamic Shield' face, looking largely similar to the smaller Mitsubishi eX concept. Heavily sculpted wheel arches and character lines, floating roof with rails, as well as a long greenhouse complete its side profile, while the rear end has not been revealed.

Mitsubishi summarizes the XM as fusing the '"toughness of an SUV with the versatility of an MPV", as reflected in its name; "X" for crossover, "M" for MPV. Overall, Mitsubishi has invested 600 million USD (250 million USD to develop the MPV, and the rest will go into building the plant), and also plans to export the MPV to other South East Asian markets like Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

Mitsubishi has not revealed the interior of the BR-V-rival, but confirmed that the concept is a 7-seater, claiming that a wide body and an optimized interior layout will ensure generous interior space for seven occupants. Under the hood, it is likely to feature an all-electric powertrain. Power would be sent to all wheels as Mitsubishi does say the XM delivers 'high all-terrain performance'.
