MRPL to sue Reza Uteem

Officials from Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) have said that they will take action against MMM MP Reza Uteem.

This decision comes after Uteem had alleged contamination of fuel. Uteem said, “We have to diversify our sources of supply. It seems Mangalore has supplied us contaminated fuel.”

According to sources, MRPL has already contacted its legal advisors regarding the allegations.

“MRPL is an Indian company and it is not only the reputation of the company which is at stake but also that of India because we distribute the fuel in several other countries,” said an official from MRPL.

A representative from the MRPL said, “When the ship left port in India, the product was not contaminated and this can be confirmed by the technical report from SGS India. So it is clear that Uteem is following the footsteps of his leader and wants to keep bashing India.”

The State Trading Corporation has criticised the MMM. “From 2009 to 2011, STC has received at least 60,000 tonnes of products from MRPL each month. Only 1,000 tonnes were found contaminated. To say that we treat this matter lightly is far from the truth,” said a source, who preferred to remain anonymous.

“When the cargo arrives in Mauritius, SGS Mauritius does a second control. The STC has nothing to lose since the minister of Industry and Commerce Showkutally Soodhun recently requested that the contents of the conveyor be insured as well,” added the source.
