Neiman Marcus Sells a Dozen $354,000 McLarens Within Two Hours
Luxury retailer Neiman Marcus offered 12 special edition McLaren 12C Spider sports cars in its annual holiday catalog called the Christmas Book. The book typically includes a signature vehicle that sells out quickly.

This year was no exception as buyers, undeterred by the roadster’s $354,000 price tag, snapped up the dozen McLarens in less than two hours after sales officially began today. The 2012 Christmas Book sale also gave buyers the chance to be the first owners of the new car, which is not yet available for delivery.

The price of each car includes first-class travel to the United Kingdom and two nights at a five-star hotel and spa. Buyers will also get a tour of the McLaren Technology Center, where the company designs and builds its racing and road cars. McLaren is best known by racing fans for its Formula One racing teams, which have a successful record dating to the 1970s.

The trip includes dinner with company chairman and longtime racing-team boss Ron Dennis.

The 12C Spider is a new model in the McLaren line of high-performance sports cars. Based on the 12C coupe, the Spider has a retractable hard top and a 3.8-liter turbocharged V8 engine that puts out 616 horsepower, a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, and can sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.

Maximum speed is 328 mph with the top up and 315 with the roof open.

Each Neiman Marcus Edition car comes with a numbered stainless-steel badge, a matching three-piece McLaren luggage set and other exclusive items. The cars are scheduled to arrive by Christmas.
