No Increase in Taxi Rates
Despite the rising cost of gasoline, taxi fare to travel will not change.

And if the side of the traveling public, the relief among taxi drivers, it is a different story. For Rafik Bahadoor, president of the Taxi Proprietors' Union, the situation is catastrophic. According to him, the taxi drivers are powerless and afraid to raise the price of trips because they risk losing their customers. He says that their clients are mainly from the middle class and higher rates would not be beneficial for business. Rafik Bahadoor therefore accuse the government of being insensitive to their problem, as they expect solutions.

Faizal, a taxi driver in Port-Louis, for its part, says that the number of customers has decreased due to the recent relocation of many companies to Ebony. Thus, despite the rising price of gasoline, they can not take the risk to raise prices for fear of discouraging the public to travel by taxi.
