Petroleum Products: Sayed-Hossen in India for Talks with MRPL
Minister of Industry and Trade has gone to India this week for talks with the Indian authorities to renew the supply contract for petroleum products between the Mauritian government and Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL ).

Cader Sayed Hossen is accompanied by his Permanent Secretary, Asha Burrenchobay and the Director of the State Trading Corporation, Meg Pillay.

The three-year contract between the STC and MRPL expires on July 31. The MRPL is the only provider in Mauritius petroleum products since 2006. The current agreement was signed in 2010 by Mr. Basu, Managing Director of MRPL and Mr. Soomarooah, General Manager of the STC at the time, in the presence of Showkutally Soodhun, then Minister of Commerce. It focuses on the supply of petroleum products worth $ 2 billion for a period of three years. The MRPL has proven so far to be a reliable supplier of oil to the country. At one point, the Indian oil company has suspended the supply of petroleum products to all its customers last year, following technical problems. But she continued to supply Mauritius on a regular basis taking into account the fact that the supply of petroleum products is an agreement between the two governments. Mauritius imported last year some 1,345,000 tons of petroleum products MRPL, which represents an increase of 15% compared to 2011. An estimated 112,000 tonnes monthly delivery of petroleum products in the country. These products include gasoline, diesel, heavy oil and Jet A1 for the supply of aircraft.

The MRPL has also expressed its interest to participate in the construction of an oil terminal in the port area. This terminal should enable Mauritius to position itself as a hub for supply vessels for petroleum products in the region while allowing the formation of a strategic reserve.

During his stay in India, Cader Sayed Hossen-have discussions with his Indian counterpart and also meet with leaders of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce.
