When someone has been in the game as long as British rock star Rod Stewart, it's pretty much guaranteed that his millions would have been spent on some great motoring metal.

Over the years the superstar has been spotted in all kinds of rare and expensive supercars, and one of his first quality buys is about to head to auction in the UK. Originally bought in 1971 by Stewart from Lamborghini Concessionaires Ltd., the Miura stayed in his possession until 1976, a rather short-lived ownership for such a special car.

The current owner acquired the car in 1983, and he decided to upgrade the Miura to SV specification that included the necessary front and rear clam modifications, suspension upgrades and rear lights. In 2013 the the car was fully restored in this SV configuration by Colin Clarke Engineering. Suspension, steering, brakes, and hubs were rebuilt to concours condition and there was a complete overhaul of the wiring, dash instruments, supply lines and tires. Steering and suspension were laser-aligned too. The body was refinished in the factory Blue Notte paint and the interior and glass was also corrected. The SV conversion and restoration came in at around the $120,000 mark.

There were only 764 Miura's built between 1966 and 1973 and the SV version that this has been turned into saw just 150 examples. It featured a transverse-mounted 3.9-liter V12 that produced 380 horsepower, insane power for the day. It's been said that the Miura was the founder of the supercar class of cars, and with the looks, the power and the value, that may just be right. This version that will go under the hammer at Coys is expected to fetch between 800,000 and 900,000 GBP ($980,000-$1,100,000), on par with this US-based one seen for sale recently. Not only is it a hot classic, it has that link to Rod Stewart. The original paperwork and some photos are included in the sale.
