The NTA will soon give this warning to motorists. That's not all as heavy trucks, buses and vehicles will receive a one-year moratorium in order to set a speed limiter. As a result, motorists have until July 2012 to do so. That's what we said a senior official of the National Transport Authority (NTA).
"With the new release that the NTA will be issued, all vehicles that have less than 10 years will be essential to have a speedometer. The NTA has found that there are speedometers for vehicles under 10 years on market. On our roads, there are vehicles that do not have 10 years."
In February this year the government had backtracked on this issue because there was no speed limiter on the market and the NTA received too many complaints from motorists. Currently, all trucks , buses and vehicles carrying goods, going to the fitness centers for verification of the NTA without being fitted with speed limiters, get a fitness certificate valid for a period of six months. If a vehicle is equipped with a speed limiter, then it will have a certificate for a year or two years, said an officer of the NTA.
