The Dubai Police Force has quite a reputation. The most powerful and aggressively designed cars in the world, regardless of their pricing, are there to catch perpetrators. However, with the Dubai crime rate being one of the lowest worldwide, those cars are mostly there for the show.
However, the police officers who work in the United Arab Emirates do need super powerful cars, because, hey, this is the land of the rich, who can afford just about any car out there. And it is not just the luxury features that they are after, but also ultra-potent engines with hundreds of horsepower.
Each time the Dubai Police takes its cars out on the road, onlookers have the feeling that it is some parade preceding a car show. Some of the models parading on the streets of the city were either donated or confiscated, but rarely purchased.
Chevrolet Corvettes, Mercedes-AMGs, the boxy G-Class, the Bentley Continental, the Nissan GT-R, the Lotus Eletre R, some Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and even the controversial Tesla Cybertruck found a place there.
You name it, they've got it. Some are tuned by Mansory because the residents of Dubai like the bling-bling. Most of the cars in the local police fleet feature top specs.
So, it seems that the Lucid Air is in just the right place. The policemen got their hands on the Grand Touring version, which is not the most powerful, nor the quickest of them all, but the one with the longest range of the lineup. That is because the last thing law enforcement would need when chasing thieves is running out of electricity.
The Grand Touring comes with a dual-motor powertrain, good for a total of 819 horsepower. That is enough for the EV to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds and hit a top speed of 168 mph (270 kph).
Meanwhile, the range-topping Air Sapphire sports 1,234 horsepower, an acceleration from 0 to 60 in just 1.89 seconds, and a top speed of 205 mph (330 kph). But while the Air Sapphire needs to be plugged in again after 427 miles (687 kilometers), the Grand Touring can keep on driving up to 512 miles (824 kilometers), which makes it the longest-range production EV in the world.
However, the crown jewel of the Dubai police fleet is the Bugatti Veyron, even though it has been there for eight years. The Veyron comes with 987 horsepower, managed by a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The setup pushes the French hypercar from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds. The needle of the speedometer goes all the way to a top speed of 253 mph (407 kph).
