Toyota Century Luxury SUV Gearing Up As Oriental Rival to the Rolls-Royce Cullinan

Lamborghini's Urus battles out the Ferrari Purosangue and Aston Martin DBX707 in the former, whereas the latter is dominated by the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Bentley Bentayga, as well as the Mercedes-Maybach GLS. However, these models will soon face some stiff competition from Toyota, with a high-riding take on the Century, which was recently confirmed for production.

The Toyota Century SUV wants to build on the success of the limo that targets deep-pocketed enthusiasts, business people, and government officials in the Land of the Rising Sun. It will be due sooner than you think, debuting as early as this year, and it should come to life at the Tahara factory, which normally builds Lexus vehicles.

Unconfirmed information speaks about the Toyota Century SUV building on the Highlander. This could mean using the TNGA-K architecture shared with the RX and the Grand Highlander, Crown Crossover, and Sienna. The platform will give it access to all sorts of powertrains, including turbocharged straight-four units, V6s, and gasoline hybrids. The Toyota Highlander has a wheelbase length of 2,850 mm (112.2 inches), and the Bentley Bentayga's measures 2,992 mm (117.8 in). Therefore, we wouldn't be surprised if they increased the space between the axles for a roomier interior.

Despite reportedly building on the Highlander, the Century SUV might actually surpass the Land Cruiser in terms of pricing. No one who doesn't have any direct ties to the R&D process knows anything about the targeted pricing yet, but it has been reported that it might start at 15 million yen, surpassing 20 million yen in the range-topping flavor. This equals $104,605 and $139,470 at today's exchange rates, and it's not bad at all, considering that the 2023 Bentley Bentayga has an MSRP of roughly $200,000 in the United States.

Ever since reports about a hypothetical Toyota Century SUV surfaced a few months back, there have been several unofficial takes on trying to imagine it. One of the latest was signed by Kolesa. It is an eye-catching CGI design that stays true to the original Century to make it easily recognizable, featuring boxy styling, wide fenders, and distinctive front and rear ends. We certainly wouldn't hate it if it ended up looking similar to the one in these renderings, and it might just do that, as it is expected to feature edgy looks in a vein similar to the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
