Seems like you can't go a day without another big announcement regarding an OEM and some on-demand mobility partner. On days like today, there are sometimes two such announcements. Toyota said earlier today it will partner with Uber and now we learn that VW has made a big investment in Gett.
The strategic investment is worth $300 million and will put VW into the temporary driver's seat in 60 cities around the world. If you think that's a lot for a company you've never heard of, Gett used to be known as GetTaxi, so perhaps that's a name you know.
Gett is obviously attacking the big player in the ride hailing space, hosting a "surgesucks" minisite that will get you free rides if Uber charged you too much. Gett's Twitter feed also takes on Uber directly:
It's official! Business Insider declares Gett the 'Uber-killer'.http://www.businessinsider.com/gett-uber-flat-fares-surge-pricing-gmc-yukon-camry-2015-10 …
