VW Invests $300M In Global Ridesharing Company Gett
Ridesharing services have found a lot of new friends in the automotive industry. We've come a long way from the early days of Ford partnering with Zipcar or Daimler starting up Car2go.

Seems like you can't go a day without another big announcement regarding an OEM and some on-demand mobility partner. On days like today, there are sometimes two such announcements. Toyota said earlier today it will partner with Uber and now we learn that VW has made a big investment in Gett.

The strategic investment is worth $300 million and will put VW into the temporary driver's seat in 60 cities around the world. If you think that's a lot for a company you've never heard of, Gett used to be known as GetTaxi, so perhaps that's a name you know.

Gett is obviously attacking the big player in the ride hailing space, hosting a "surgesucks" minisite that will get you free rides if Uber charged you too much. Gett's Twitter feed also takes on Uber directly:
