Honda North America has taken the wraps off the all-new 2017 Honda CR-V in Detroit today, revealing the new exterior, interior, feature list and engine lineup.
The fifth generation of America’s best selling SUV will go on sale across Honda dealerships in the U.S before the end of this year, and prices will be announced closer to its launch date.
The exterior design borrows inspiration from the new Civic. featuring a bold Solid Wing grille with an Automatic Shutter Grille System to lower drag, sleeker headlights (LED power in Touring trim) with wing-shaped LED DRLs, 17/18 inch aluminum alloy wheels, bold LED powered taillights and a Honda-first Hands-Free Access Power Tailgate. To increase cabin space, the CR-V has been stretched by two inches (50.8 mm). Honda believes that it should offer best-in-class interior space and rear-seat legroom.
The new CR-V adopts a new interior that is claimed to be more premium and practical than the outgoing model. Like all previous CR-Vs, the gear selector is mounted on the center console, rather than the floor console. Otherwise, the crossover gets a redesigned multi-function steering wheel, digital instrument cluster, a physical volume knob that replaces the touch slider and a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
As expected, the new CR-V offers the option of a turbocharged engine for the first time. The engine in question is the 1.5L DOHC turbo engine from the Honda Civic, which produces 190 hp and 179 lb-ft of peak torque. For the base variants, Honda has opted for the 2.4L direct-injected i-VTEC engine good for 184 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque. Both engine options are equipped with a CVT, while an AWD is available as an option.
