Ford F-150 By Mil-Spec Is A Tactical Truck With 500 Horsepower
The company's trademark tactical treatment comes to the popular pickup.

We've featured vehicles from Michigan-based Mil-Spec Automotive before. Rather, we've featured a specific type of Mil-Spec vehicle – the Hummer H1. The company cut its teeth by building modern, badass versions of the original Humvee, even going to far as to create a bonkers street-trimmed H1 with a lowered suspension and ridiculous power. Now, their portfolio is expanding to include a vehicle a bit more popular with U.S. buyers. Say hello to the first Mil-Spec Automotive Ford F-150.

The Mil-Spec team is keen to say this truck isn't a Raptor. Among other things, power comes from a modified 5.0-liter Coyote V8 that develops 500 naturally aspirated horsepower. Specific engine upgrades aren't mentioned, aside from a performance tune that requires 91 octane fuel. More obvious are the upgrades to the suspension, which in this case includes an optional Baja Performance Package. The result is 11 inches of suspension travel and a track-width increase of 13.5 inches. Another optional suspension upgrade is the Fox 3.0 F-150 Long Travel Performance Shock Package, which plugs in a fully-adjustable coilover kit with 3-inch-diameter bypass shocks and a wide range of upgraded hardware to make it all work.

Sticking to Mil-Spec's trademark tactical styling, the F-150 gets a Baja Exterior Appearance Package that adds the roof rack with an LED light bar, and a spare tire carrier in the bed. Upgraded front and rear bumpers are also offered, and of course, the truck rides on a set of custom black alloy wheels shod with 37-inch off-road tires.

Exterior colors also follow the tactical military theme with four choices – two shades of gray, black, and white. You'll also find black powder coating on a range of components such as the side steps and push bars. Interior updates include special leather seats and billet aluminum control knobs. Mil-Spec Automotive seals the deal with special badging both inside and out.

Pricing for the Mil-Spec Automotive F-150 starts at $85,000.

"MSA saw an opportunity to bring a product offering to the market at a price point that hasn't been seen before," said company co-founder Adam Mitchell. "Our goal was to include an extreme exterior aesthetic backed up by drastic performance improvements that could be applied to one of the most iconic North American vehicle platforms, the F-150. Many of the American aftermarket legacy brands have attempted to improve this platform in a turn-key package, but our in-depth market research revealed that more could be done while still achieving a price point that is well below what most of these companies are targeting."
